Background

Basically, I'm looking to create an automated checkout system for the SU Bookstore. This way students won't have to wait in long lines to complete their purchase. In essence, after the initial set-up it will take only as much time to find the books as to complete the purchase.

Students would create an account either online or with an employee in the Bookstore. Stored on their account would be a balance or credit/debit card number to pay for the items. All one would have to do is swipe an SU ID card and the purchase would be complete. The book identification would occur with radio waves and an emitter from the actual book.

There could be some problems if someone's ID was stolen, but if reported a mark could be placed on the account and the card "frozen." I think this would be helpful because it would basically eliminate the long lines and make life simpler (time wise) for many people. Although, due to some people's phobia of technology cashier's would also be available.
